CAROB KIBBLE INFORMATION
CAROB

 has from 4.7 to 5.5% protein and contains vitamins A, B, B2, B3 and D.
The main constituents of CAROB are large natural good carbohydrates (sugars) 37-49%, which are water soluble and is also high in fibre!

CAROB is low in Saturated Fat, Cholesterol and Sodium.

CAROB is also high in calcium, phosphorus, potassium and magnesium, it also contains iron, manganese, barium, copper and nickel. However, it should of course be eaten alongside a balanced diet. It has no oxalic acid which prevents the body using calcium and zinc. These minerals are vital to a healthy skin, coat and hooves. CAROB tannins do bind to (and thereby inactivate) toxins and inhibit growth of bacteriaóboth of which are beneficial when it comes to diarrhera.

    APPLICATIONS IN ANIMAL FEED
With carob's natural sweet taste it's easily identifiable for animals, Bionulpro improves the taste and aroma of animal feeds with no risk of producing anomalous intestinal fermentation. Bionulpro is recommended also as an appetizing agent in calf milk re-placers.
Astringent and bioregulator of digestive flora. The combination of sugars in carob kibble produces a beneficial effect on the intestinal flora of animals, and reduces intestinal pH as well as the level of dry matter in the cecum. It also improves response to certain probiotics, which significantly boosts growth after weaning and during transition. At the same time, feed conversion ratios are improved.

At a pharmaceutical level, the tannic substances present in carob, constitute the foremost natural astringents known and are used in the prevention and treatment of unspecific diarrhea's. These tannic substances are used because of their capacity to form insoluble complexes which protect the mucous membrane without altering tissue cellular vitality. They inhibit mucous membrane exudation and secretion, protecting mucous membranes from provoked irritations, internally as well as externally, tannins also carry out local anti-hemorrhagic as well as antibacterial actions.

The above properties explain Bionulpro’s excellent behavior in piglets diets after weaning, protecting the intestinal mucous membrane and significantly reducing the incidence of unspecific diarrhea's, nutritional disorders, and the incidence of ulcers.

Because of carob's composition and bioregulatory function, Bionulpro is recommended as an ingredient in rabbit/horse/cattle/sheep feeds as well as in pet foods.

One of the reasons why carob is recommended for inclusion in ruminant feeds is that it provides a balance between fibrous and non-fibrous carbohydrates, thereby improving the synchronization of fermentation of energy and that of nitrogen.

Bionulpro is particularly recommended for ruminant diets which are rich in non protein-soluble nitrogen (urea, fresh grass, silage, etc.), as its high sugar content facilitates a quick development of the rumen flora. This reduces ammonia concentration in the rumen and, consequently, eliminates the hazard of liver intoxication.

Other Interesting information about the Carob

The carob tree is a member of the legume (pea) family and it grows in Mediterranean areas. It favours arid conditions which are naturally alien to fungus and pests so little or no chemical sprays are needed in its cultivation.

It is a large beautiful tree and grows to 15m in 50 years. It produces no fruit for the first 10 to 15 years of its life, but will fruit well into its old age. The carob tree flowers in September and October. The flowers on female carob trees must be pollinated by pollen from the male trees.

Developing carob pods have the appearance of green broad beans but they turn a dark glossy brown with maturity. They are between 4"and 10"long and weigh 0.75 to 1.5 oz.

The pods contain four series of oval holes, each bearing a seed like a watermelon seed. Each pod can contain up to 15 seeds. Carob seeds and pods are edible. The ground seeds/pods are used as a substitute for cocoa and as a food (also known as algarroba, St. John's bread, and locust bean gum).

The pods (Kibble) are commonly used as cattle/horse feed.
